Morris S. Ferguson

Morris S. Ferguson, 95, a former Saratogan, passed away Dec. 20 in Reno, where he has resided for six years.

He was born in Salt Lake City on June 19, 1901. He married Marcella Taylor, who died in 1980, and later married Barbara L. Nelson, who died in 1988.

Ferguson graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in automotive engineering and was employed as an engineer with U.S. Smelting for more 25 years. He was also in the U.S. Air Force for 25 years and was an active member of the Masonic Lodge.

He and his late wife Barbara established endowments at several colleges. His remains were interred at Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego.

Samsoon Lee

Samsoon Lee, a Saratoga homemaker, died Jan. 4 of natural causes. She is survived by her son, Hyung Han.

Funeral services were held Jan. 6 at Saratoga-Cupertino Funeral Home, and interment was at Skylawn Memorial Park.

Elizabeth C. Hall

Elizabeth Clauss Hall, 83, a former Saratogan, died Jan. 6 in Belvedere.

Mrs. Hall was the widow of the late Wallace W. Hall, founding president of West Valley College and former superintendent of schools in Marin County.

A friend recalled that Mrs. Hall was very active in local organizations during the years she lived in Saratoga. "She was president of about six organizations at once. Once she had two meetings going on in different rooms in her home," recalled Saratoga News columnist Louise Webb.

Mrs. Hall and her late husband were founding members of the Friends of the Saratoga Libraries. She was president of the Los Gatos-Saratoga AAUW, chair of the Villa Montalvo Gallery committee, and active in the Saratoga Foothill Club and the Christian Scientist Church. She held free painting classes in her home for friends, Webb said.

Born in Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Hall graduated from UCLA and worked as a rare-books librarian at the Huntington Library. Later, she ran an organization of little theater groups, including the Pasadena Playhouse, and was a Works Progress Administration official. She moved to San Francisco in 1985 and settled in Belvedere two years later.

She is survived by two nephews, John Clauss Jr. of Glendale and Richard Clauss of Milmar. Her husband died Dec. 29, 1996. Private funeral services have been held.

Katherine Jones Greenlee

Katherine Jones Greenlee, 77, died Jan. 18 at Los Gatos Community Hospital after a prolonged illness.

A resident of Saratoga for over 30 years, Mrs. Greenlee was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She graduated from Northestern University in 1942.

Born in Shelbyville, Ind., on Jan. 4, 1920, she was the daughter of Herbert C. and Claire T. Jones.

She was married on July 25, 1942, to Pleas E. Greenlee Jr., who survives her. Also surviving are two daughters, Janet Greenlee of Las Cruces, N. M., and Anne Matthews of Aloha, Ore., five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services are planned at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Ind. Memorial contributions to the American Lung Association or to a favorite charity are requested.

Leola Hinderman

Leola Roberta Hinderman died January 23 at the Odd Fellows Home in Saratoga.

She was born April 15, 1911, in the family home near the Madera/Merced county line, the oldest of nine children.

She leaves two sons, George Robert Dresbach of Point Richmond and James Maurice Dresbach of Sonora, eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Her husband, Clarence Jacob Hinderman, died in 1994.

The family moved to Saratoga following World War II. Leola and her sister, Ila Wallace, owned and operated the Village Creamery restaurant here. In the 1960s, Mrs. Hinderman became secretary and bookkeeper at the Odd Fellows Home. She had retired from this position.
