    Sheriff's Report

    Weapon turned in for Destruction--Jan. 25, 4 p.m. on Saratoga Avenue. The reporting party turned in a handgun to the Westside Substation that belonged to her mother, who died Nov. 9, 2001. The reporting party said she wanted the gun destroyed.

    Petty Theft of Check--Jan. 25, 2:30 p.m. on Quito Road. An unknown suspect stole a check from the victim at an unknown location. The suspect mailed the check Nov. 28, 2001, from the victim's house. The check was cashed at the Bank of Santa Clara in Sunnyvale. The officer attached a copy of the forged and cashed check to the sheriff's office report and advised the victim to contact the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety and file a report there.
