Figure Skaters
Jeff McGowan, 16 and a sophomore at Saratoga High School, teamed with Jena Fujimoto, 14, of Hillsborough to compete in the U.S. Figure Skating Association's Junior National Championships in Chicago.
McGowan and Fujimoto, making their first appearance nationally in the intermediate pairs event, placed 13th overall after placing third in the qualifying round.
McGowan and Fujimoto, who train before school five days a week at the Logitech Ice Centre in San Jose, performed the required overhead lifts, twists, throws, death spirals and double jumps in the competition.
The intermediate level at the Junior Nationals is open to skaters under 18, and events include men's and women's singles, pairs and dance. McGowan also qualified as a first alternate in men's singles.
