Evans assumes chamber presidency

By Clarence Cromwell

Jeff Evans became the new president of the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce on Jan. 10 during the chamber's annual retreat at the Odd Fellows home.

Chamber members honored their new president, executive board, board of directors and business person of the year, Preston Wisner, during their Jan. 27 installation dinner at Saratoga Country Club.

Evans owns Saratoga Chiropractic and has practiced in the city for five years. He previously served as the chamber's first vice president and as a member of its board of directors.

The other members of the chamber's 1996 executive board are: President-elect Pat Andreson of the Backyard Center; First Vice President Rhonda Tilley of Citibank; Second Vice President Zoe Alameda of the Saratoga-Cupertino Funeral Home; treasurer Monica Bailey, a certified public accountant; and past President Dick Wood of Wood & Associates.

Members of the executive board are elected from the ranks of the 25-member board of directors each year during the chamber's annual retreat.

Six new members joined the board of directors in December: Bailey, the treasurer; Don Coulter, the Village Mail Boxes Etc. owner; Mary Jeanne Fenn, Book-Go-Round manager; Natalie Hungerford, Mutual of New York insurance representative; Barbara Van Derveer, interior and landscape designer; and Bill Cooper, Bella Saratoga owner.

The chamber re-elected 19 directors to two-year terms on the board.

Preston Wisner, named business person of the rear, was hotly "roasted" by his friends, family and other chamber directors. He apparently enjoyed the the ordeal that required friends to dress him down for his colorful language, dirty car and other idiosyncrasies, while dressing him up with a boxful of baseball caps.
