Moving On: Susan Ramos
City clerk to leave after one year with Saratoga
By Kara Chalmers
City leaders are describing last week's resignation of Susan Ramos, its first official city clerk, as a loss to Saratoga.
"She's been a valuable person on our staff," Mayor Stan Bogosian said. "She has brought us into the 21st century by making the city clerk's job into a professional job."
Councilman Evan Baker agreed, saying that her departure is devastating to the city.
Ramos announced her resignation Feb. 2. She accepted a position as administrative services manager in the Menlo Park City Manager's office. Her last day on the job in Saratoga will be Feb. 18.
"My long-term goal--which is every year becoming a short-term goal--is to be in top management some day, and this is going to steer me in the right direction," Ramos said. Ramos, who received an MBA from the University of LaVerne in December, now will have the chance to "get my feet wet in management activities and decision making," she said. "It will help me follow that path that I've made for my self."
Ramos was Saratoga's first official clerk, a position completely separate from the city manager's office. Previously, the city manager served as the city clerk, too. Ramos's duties included organizing elections, publishing agendas and minutes of City Council meetings, maintaining city records and serving as a liaison to the public and the press.
She said she has enjoyed her time with the city of Saratoga. "It's been a very rewarding and beneficial experience for me, and I only hope that it has been for the city as well," she said. "I wish them the best."
According to Bogosian, the city last week started its search to replace her.
Ramos, a native of the Philippines, moved to the United States 21 years ago. She lived in Albuquerque, Colorado Springs and Apple Valley, Calif., before settling in Santa Clara two days before her orientation for her job with the city began. Ramos has held positions in city government for 10 years.
