Sanborn Park hosts night hike for all ages
The Youth Science Institute has scheduled a winter night hike in Sanborn County Park in Saratoga on Feb. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The hike, open to adults, teenagers and children, begins at YSI's Nature Center. Led by Nature Center Manager Patricia Kucker, the hike takes participants through the evening woods and teaches them to use their senses in identifying plants, trees and elusive nocturnal animals. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $8 per person.
The nonprofit YSI provides science classes, hikes and day camps to develop children's understanding of and appreciation for the interrelationship between humans and the environment. Night hike reservations are required. For more information, call 408.867.6940.
Comedian brings her eclectic show to Blue Rock Shoot
Local comedian Jacqi Bowe presents her "alter-eager" Pam'la Pesto Perfekt at a post-Valentine's Day standup gig on Feb. 18 at 8:30 p.m. at the Blue Rock Shoot coffeehouse. Joined by Allen Dougless on piano, Bowe presents what she describes as "an emotional garage sale--an eclectic hybrid of comedy, music and surprises."
Admission is $5 per person; the first person in line will receive a free comic book. The coffeehouse is at 14523 Big Basin Way in Saratoga. For more information, call 408.241.8318.
Rec. Dept. plans springtime trip to Yosemite

The Yosemite portion of the trip features a two-hour tram tour of Yosemite Valley, one night at the historic Wawona Hotel and two nights at Yosemite Lodge, and a hosted dinner at the Ahwahnee Hotel. For information, call 408.868.1248 or 408.868.1249.
