Saratoga NewsContest seeks historical essaysThe California Pioneers of Santa Clara County holds its annual Santa Clara County Historical Essay Contest, in which participants of all ages can win one of six prizes, ranging from $500 for first place to $25 for third honorable mention. Essays, which should be between 3,000 and 10,000 words, may be on any person, place or event concerning Santa Clara County, from its beginnings to the recent past. Submissions must be in duplicate, as one copy goes to the Pioneer archives and another to the California Room of the Martin Luther King Jr. main library in downtown San Jose. The Pioneers reserve exclusive publication rights to all essays. Individuals who have received the first prize award within the last three years are not eligible to compete. Winners will receive their awards at the CPSSC quarterly luncheon on June 5 at Lou's Village in San Jose, at which time the first three winners will make brief presentations of their essays.
