Saratoga NewsSports BriefsJaguars top Vikings Dave Fergerson and Lynn Washington buried 13 points apiece to lead the San Jose City College men's basketball team to an impressive 68-57 win over West Valley Community College last week. The clubs went into the game battling for first place in the Coast Conference, and San Jose's victory leaves the two tied for the conference lead with matching 5-1 records. West Valley is now 23-2 for the year, and the Jaguars are 24-4. Tony Hicks led all scorers with 14 for the Vikings, and Darrell Teat added 12. In other local action, the De Anza Community College men dropped a 78-69 decision to Foothill. David Newberg (Westmont) and David Mollins led the Dons with 16 points apiece. In women's basketball, San Jose City College continued its winning ways in the Coast Conference and held onto its No. 2 state ranking with a pair of wins last week. The Lady Jaguars ripped Chabot 53-32 and backed that up with an 82-51 win over the College of San Mateo to improve to 10-0 in the conference and to 27-1 for the year. Arbatisha Kitchen tossed in 15 points to lead the Lady Jags to the win over the Bulldogs. The Lady Jags had opened the week with a lopsided 53-32 win over Chabot. Abby Lopes (Del Mar) led San Jose with 12 points. The women of De Anza Community College, meanwhile, topped the century mark last week in a 102-79 Coast Conference win over Ohlone. The Lady Dons improved to 7-2 in the conference and to 22-7 for the year with the win. Stephanie Harris topped the Dons with 27 points, and Jane Riley (Westmont) fired in 19. Valentine Run The annual Valentine 10K run and 5K walk down the Los Gatos Creek trail returns to Campbell on Feb. 14. The race begins at 9 a.m. at the Water Tower Plaza in Campbell. The cost for the event is $15 for those who register by Feb. 6. For more information, call 866-2105. Soccer School The Go 4 Gold Soccer School will be held Feb. 16-20, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. each day, at Homestead High School in Sunnyvale.
