The Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District governing board has scheduled special meetings on Feb. 12 and 13 to gather input from the community on the search for a new superintendent to fill the vacancy left by Superintendent Tod Likins' retirement in June.
"The reason for the meeting is to determine what the community wants in a superintendent," Likins said.
The board will establish a list of qualifications for a new superintendent after considering information from the public. This is an opportunity for concerned citizens to express their views on what experience, skills and background the next superintendent should have, said board member Robert Allen.
The board will then incorporate this information into its guidelines for likely candidates.
"We want input from every facet of a student's life, including parents, teachers and the community. Because we're involved with the day-to-day activity, maybe there's something we haven't thought about," Allen said.
During the process, Allen hopes that common concerns will emerge that the board can address when confronted with the decision-making process.
Simultaneous meetings on both days are being held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Saratoga High School library and at Los Gatos High School in the patio room. Board members will be divided up and present at each meeting.
