Parking restricted on Shadow Oaks
Following the Saratoga Public Safety Commission's recommendation, the city council approved new regulations for parking along two residences at Shadow Oaks Way.
Parking and stopping along the properties at 14011 and 14010 Shadow Oaks Way will be prohibited between the hours of 7 and 9 a.m. and the hours of 2 and 4 p.m Monday through Friday. Parents had been using the spot to drop off and pick up students, who then used a connection pathway to get to Redwood Middle School.
Property owners on Shadow Oaks Way asked the public safety commission to consider restrictions.
Streit is honored for waste service
Mayor Nick Streit received a commendation last week from the West Valley Solid Waste Joint Powers Association for his service over the last year as the association's chairperson.
Streit helped to install several new waste disposal programs in the West Valley, including a new paper recycling effort.
Council opposes precedent of bill
The city council passed a resolution opposing a bill currently moving through the state legislature that would tie sales tax money to smart growth principles.
Under the bill, one-third of a city's take of sales tax money would be subject to review based on a city's general plan for growth. The bill, which currently would only apply to the Sacramento area, is designed to encourage denser development in suburban areas, as opposed to sprawling residential and commercial growth.
However, Saratoga officials and consultants say the bill may be an excuse for control of tax revenues to be taken away from local governments.
