Saratoga Presbyterian Church hosts series of musical events

This winter and spring, the Saratoga Presbyterian Church, at 20455 Herriman Ave., invites the community to attend its concerts and choral events .

The first concert took place on Feb. 11, and featured the church's professional organists, Christian Elliott and David Hegarty. This concert was part of a dedication event celebrating the congregation's new digital Allen organ and its faithfully performing Hill Green Lane pipe organ.

On Feb. 25, the church hosts the Simpson College Choir during the 9:30 a.m. service. Simpson College is a Christian and Missionary Alliance liberal arts college that was located in San Francisco for many years; it recently relocated to Redding. Everyone is welcome to attend. The church is also looking for local residents willing to house some of the young collegians overnight on Feb. 24.

The next concert takes place on March 11, at 2:30 p.m. and features pianist David Henley of Chicago. He will play works by Bach, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and other composers.

The final concert takes place on April 12, at 7:30 p.m. and is part of the church's annual Maundy Thursday communion service. Broadway singer and actress Cindy Marchianda will perform in a one-woman musical drama that explores the relationship between Mary Magdalene and Jesus Christ. The musical, Early One Morning, was written by Ron Melrose, musical director for The Scarlet Pimpernel Broadway play and former musical director of All Angels Episcopal Church in New York City.

For more information about the concerts, call the Saratoga Presbyterian Church at 408.867.0144.
