City to hold meeting on foundation

The Saratoga City Council will hold a town-hall-style meeting Feb. 27 on forming a city-sponsored community foundation that would serve the city's general needs, including sports and arts projects. Interested members of the community are invited to share their insights on what Saratoga's community foundation should be like.

At the meeting, the council plans to address the number of people who would serve on the board of the foundation, and what types of projects the foundation would fund. The meeting will be held in the Adult Care Center on Allendale Avenue at 7 p.m.

    County seeks grand jurors

The Santa Clara County Superior Court is seeking volunteers to serve as civil grand jurors for the next fiscal year, commencing July 1, 2001.

The Grand Jury is the county's investigative body and it has the power to examine all aspects of county and city government and special districts. Applicants must be 18 years old, a citizen of the United States, a resident of the county for one year prior to the beginning of the fiscal year, and must not be an elected official, among other qualifications.

The deadline for applications is March 23. Interested persons can contact Gloria Alicia Chacón at 408.299.3608.

City is in good shape financially

The city of Saratoga is in good financial shape according to the mid-year financial report prepared by the city's administrative services department. The report details the six months ending in December 2000.

Overall, revenues are higher than expected due to higher sales tax, transfer tax, construction tax, interest income and motor vehicle license fees, as well as an unbudgeted one-time grant from the state to be used for high-tech safety equipment. Expenditures are slightly lower than expected. According to the director of the department, Mary Jo Walker, the city always budgets very conservatively.
