    Sola at Texas

Mitty soccer star Monika Sola of Saratoga has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Texas beginning with the 2001-02 school year.

Sola, a 5-foot-9 senior defender for the Monarchs, helped Mitty to back-to-back Central Coast Section championships in each of the last two seasons, and she was named the Junior of the Year on the all-CCS team last winter.

She played club soccer for the De Anza Dynamite, helping the team win the CYSA-North State Cup under-16 championship and reach the 1999 Western Regional finals.

"Monika has a wealth of potential to do great things for us," said Texas soccer coach Chris Petrucelli as he announced his seven recent signees. "She is a good one-on-one defender and she will help fill a position that is thin for us right now."
