Thaxton to head economic institute
Karen Thaxton, former assistant dean for community and economic development at MiraCosta Community College District in Oceanside, was named executive director of the West Valley-Mission Community College District's new Economic Development Institute.
EDI will help workers start careers or continue current ones and will help entrepreneurs with their growing businesses.
Components of EDI include the Silicon Valley Small Business Development Center, District Corporate Training, District Community Education, and the recently added Procurement Technical Assistance Consortium that will help minority and woman-owned businesses compete in the government bidding process.
