SONIC REPORTS FALL IN DONATIONS

Proponents of the Saratoga Neighborhood Preservation Initiative gathered less than half as much funding for the period between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 as they collected during the previous quarter.

Supporters gave the Save Our Neighborhood Initiative Committee $1,427.03 in the recent period. The proponents fared better between the group's inception Aug. 8, 1995, and Sept. 30, 1995. During that period, they collected $3,040.

But one contributor saved the committee legwork this period by donating more than two-thirds of the funding. On Oct. 7, Ralph Borelli, a neighbor of the Odd Fellows complex, gave SONIC $1,000. (The expansion of the Odd Fellows project could be blocked if the initiative is adopted.)

Other gifts--all received the same week--came in the form of $287 on Oct. 4 from Jennifer Crotty and $100 on Oct. 5 from Darrell Messick.

After receiving a total of $4,467 in both periods and spending $3,033.58, the group had $1,602.52 in the bank, as of Dec. 31.

The California Election Code requires campaign groups to file quarterly reports detailing all contributions to the city clerk. The records are available for public examination.
