The De Anza Community College basketball teams each lost in Coast Conference competition last week.
The De Anza women dropped a 77-68 heartbreaker to rival San Jose City College in a key conference battle. The Jaguars improved to 9-2 as they stuck the Dons with their first loss of the league season. De Anza slipped to 11-1 in the conference and to 26-6 for the year.
Jaymie Woodard and Jane Riley were the big scorers for the Dons in the loss. Woodard led the locals with 16 points, and Riley was close behind with 15. Shana Buchanan supported with 12 points for De Anza and Jenny Miller, a former Prospect star, and Bernadette Suffle pitched in 10 points apiece. Kam Simpson added five points.
The De Anza men lost an 86-73 nod to Chabot despite an 18-point night by Nick Glover.
Big 6-foot-8 Ed Huse chipped in with 15 points, Harold Bordenave had 13, Mike O'Neal popped 11 and Aaron Zaballos added 10. Chris Karanastasis chipped in with four points and Bryan Barnes had two.
