Shannon Moore proved last week why she is a co-captain of the Saratoga girls' soccer team. The talented senior knocked in a pair of goals to lead the Falcons to a pair of victories in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.
Moore scored a goal to help the Falcons open the week with a 3-0 win over Cupertino, and she scored her team's only goal in a 1-0 victory over Lynbrook to cap the week.
The two wins left the Falcons with a 6-1-5 record in the division and with an 8-4-6 record for the year.
Moore's second-half goal broke up a scoreless tie and lifted the Falcons to the win over the Vikings.
Earlier in the week she had a goal and an assist in Saratoga's 3-0 victory over Cupertino. Junior co-captain Kathy Aanenson and junior Kristen Fellner added goals for Saratoga in the win, and freshmen Mary Moran and Courtney Williams chipped in with assists.
In other girls' soccer action, Prospect improved to 9-2-3 in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League with wins over Pioneer and Del Mar.
Goals by Lyndsay Spanek, Kristel Munch and Brianne Copes sparked the Panthers to a 3-0 win over the Mustangs to open the week.
Prospect, 14-3-5 for the year, came back with a 4-1 win over Del Mar. Trisha Pesiri knocked in two goals, and Munch dished off three assists to lead the Panthers to the win. Sarah Yarnall chipped in with a goal and an assist and Spanek added an assist.
Amanda Donaldson buried two goals to lead the Westmont girls' soccer team to a 3-1 win over Willow Glen in West Valley Division play last week. Sue Sanfilippo added a goal for the Warriors, and Soya Clapp and Kelly Larrus supported with assists.
The Warriors closed out the regular season by battling Piedmont Hills to a scoreless tie. The tie left Westmont 3-8-3 in the division and 5-11-6 for the year.
In boys' soccer action, Prospect wrapped up the regular season in style with a win and a tie in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the BVAL.
The Panthers finished 7-3-2 in the division and are 12-5-3 overall heading into the CCS playoffs.
Marcos Hernandez scored on a penalty kick in the second half to help the Panthers pull out a clutch 1-1 tie against Santa Teresa to secure the playoff berth.
Earlier in the week, Hernandez and Nelson Santana each had a goal and an assist to lead the Panthers to a 4-0 win over Lincoln. Derek Avery and Scott Vargas added goals for the Panthers and Josh Anderson and Brendon Morris supported with assists.
Saratoga, meanwhile, came up short in the race for the title in the El Camino Division of the SCVAL.
The Falcons wrapped up the regular season with wins over Cupertino and Gunn to finish league play with an 8-2-2 record. But Milpitas ended up 9-2-1 after beating Wilcox 3-0 on the final day of the regular season.
Eric Fanali buried a pair of goals to lead the Falcons to the 2-0 win over the Titans to close out the regular season. Fanali scored off a David Tomine assist in the first half, and he added an insurance goal for the Falcons when he took an assist from team co-captain Elliot Jones to score a second-half goal.
Saratoga, 12-3-3 for the year, had open the week with a lopsided 6-1 win over Cupertino. Team co-captain Cole Sternberg popped in two goals and added an assist to lead the Falcons to the impressive win.
Tomine supported with two goals, and David Goni and Richard Lu added a goal apiece. Fanali and Sean Hanley chipped in with assists.
