Great Chowder Chase
Runners will take off in the Great Chowder Chase on Feb. 23 when the starting gun blasts at 8:45 a.m. at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk to get the 412-mile run under way. The registration fee is $25, and proceeds benefit the Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department. For more information, call 429-3477.
Bandits hold tryouts
The Bend Bandits of the Class AA Western Baseball League will hold tryouts on Feb. 22-23 at Cañada College in Redwood City. Professional experience is preferred but not required, and players must provide their own equipment. Registration begins promptly at 9 a.m.
Spring Softball Signups
San Jose Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services has scheduled registration for the spring season.
All teams returning from any league in 1996 can mail or fax in registration information (postmarked by Feb. 28), or deliver the information March 3-7 at the Adult Sports Office, Camden Lifetime Activities Center, 3369 Union Ave., San Jose (95124).
The league season begins April 4 with games played Sunday through Friday nights. The registration fee is $375 for men's and women's C and DD teams and for men's D teams, and $330 for men's EE and E teams, women's D teams and all co-rec teams.

All-Comers Meets
Los Gatos will host the annual All-Comers track and field meets on Saturdays through Feb. 22 at the high school track. The entry fee is $3, $2 for spectators. For more information, call Willie Harmatz at 354-7365.
Pony League
The Saratoga Pony League will hold late registration each Saturday through March 8 at Congress Springs Park. The league will also hold clinics and spring training for players ages 13-14 (as of July 31, 1997). For more information, call John at 867-7253.
Jackson top student
Alan Jackson of Los Gatos, an arts and science major at Lehigh University, won a place on the fall honor roll while competing for the school's men's cross country team. Jackson, a Westmont graduate, was a top runner for Lehigh.
