    Hearing on safety center rescheduled

A city council presentation of options on the planned Village public safety center has been moved from Feb. 20 to March 6.

At the March meeting, the architectural firm is tentatively scheduled to show the council four different schemes that have been developed over the last several months by a local task force. The committee, comprised of public agency representatives and Saratoga citizens has been working toward a new facility for fire, sheriff's and possibly U.S. Postal operations on a patchwork of land near the current fire station.

After the council reviews the options on March 6, the committee will go back to the drawing board before a final council presentation on April 3.

    League voter info online

To prepare for the upcoming March 5 elections, the League of Women Voters of California has set up a website, smartvoter.org, with information on the issues and candidates in the election. The site includes short biographies about each candidate, position papers, his or her three top priorities, endorsements and photos.

The league site also has pros and cons for the different ballot measures.

There is also information on rules about state primaries, including who can and can't vote in those races.

And voter's can get up to date on redistricting, which occurred recently following the release of 2000 census data.

Voters can look up customized information by county, by Zip code or by party affiliation.

    Abuse prevention center needs aides

The Child Abuse Prevention Center in Redwood City, which serves Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, is looking for volunteers to work in its case aide program.

Volunteers will assist children and their foster families by helping social workers.

The center is also looking for volunteers to become part of its speaker's bureau.

Training classes will be held March 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in San Jose. All volunteers will be finger printed and have their licenses screened.
