Local Soroptimist Club plans annual Spring Fling event

The Los Gatos-Saratoga chapter of Soroptimist International invites the public to attend its Spring Fling Luncheon Fashion Show on March 8, at La Rinconada County Club in Los Gatos. The fashions this year come from Leaf & Petal Women's Wear, which has stores located in Los Gatos and Palo Alto.

The event also includes a silent auction, door prizes and live music by Dennis White. The Spring Fling raises funds for community nonprofit organizations; this year's recipient is House on the Hill Recovery Center, which aids women with substance abuse problems.

Tickets are $40 per person. Call 408.379.0268.

Science group plans hike in Sanborn Park

The Youth Science Institute holds its next Night Hike on March 3, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Sanborn-Skyline County Park in Saratoga. The hike, open to all ages, begins at the institute's Nature Center, at 16055 Sanborn Road. Led by Nature Center manager Patricia Kucker, the hike takes participants through the evening woods, and teaches them to use their various senses in spotting and identifying nocturnal animals. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $5 per person.

The nonprofit institute provides science education classes, hikes and day camps to develop children's understanding of and appreciation for the interrelationship between humans and the natural world. Call 408.867.6940 for reservations.
