American Cancer Society holds annual Daffodil Days campaign
Just as the daffodil symbolizes hope and new beginnings with its habit of blooming before the Spring, the American Cancer Society (ACS) symbolizes those same things to the thousands of people it touches each year in its mission to prevent, treat and ultimately help find a cure for cancer.
To that end, the ACS holds its Daffodil Days fundraiser nationwide each February and March. Through March 3, ACS volunteers are taking orders for freshly cut daffodil bouquets, with or without vases, as well as larger and more elaborate spring and corporate arrangements. "Gifts of Hope" is another option, in which donors purchase vases and bouquets of 10 daffodils that are delivered as anonymous gifts to cancer patients in local hospitals.
Out of every Daffodil Days dollar raised, 74 cents goes directly to the ACS's fight against cancer. Among the ACS's projects are public education programs, youth and adult cancer support groups and transportation for patients to and from cancer treatments. It also helps fund medical research.
Flowers will be available March 27-29. Orders totaling $55 or more will be delivered free to one address. Smaller orders may be picked up at various locations.
For prices and more information, call the local ACS office at 408.879.1032 ext. 150; the toll-free hot line at 408.877.691HOPE or visit www.cancer.org/ca on the Internet.
