    Putting Volunteers to the Test

The Saratoga Fire District tested 13 new volunteer firefighter recruits Feb. 12, who will graduate Feb. 19 at West Valley College from the Fire Academy. From 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., the recruits dragged hoses, hoisted ladders and put out fake fires at the vacant cottages at the Saratoga Lodge on Big Basin Way.

The 15 have been training together since the Academy's program started in September. They had to prove they could work together as a team, said Capt. James Young.
