Salute to Youth program seeks young entrants
Youth Focus Inc., a San Jose-based nonprofit, is accepting entries for its 12th annual Santa Clara County Salute to Youth program. Nominees must be between the ages of nine and 21 and live or attend school in this county. Nominations may come from any youth or community agency, service or fraternal organization, county or city agency, or minister, teacher, coach or school counselor.
Nominees are chosen for accomplishments, achievement and community service in many different categories. The finalist in each category will be honored at an awards dinner on March 31 and will earn a savings bond, commendations from legislators and a medallion. Hakone Gardens plans watercolor workshop in March
As part of the various art classes it offers to the community, Saratoga's Hakone Gardens offers a workshop on painting cityscapes. Award-winning watercolorist Ferenc Besze will teach the workshop on March 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants will learn how to add figures to their paintings, giving life and proportion to their works. The instructor will also explain how to capture the essence of a busy subject in an Impressionistic style. Participants should bring watercolors, an easel, reference materials such as sketches and photos and a lunch.
Class fee is $40 per day or $70 for both days. For information, call 650.960.1722.
Soroptimist Club holds its fashion show and luncheon
The Los Gatos-Saratoga chapter of Soroptimist International invites the community to its fifth annual Spring Fashion Show and Luncheon, which takes place March 9 at 11:30 a.m. at La Rinconada Country Club, 14595 Clearview Drive in Los Gatos. Themed "Spring into the Millennium," the event benefits House on the Hill, a substance abuse residential recovery center in San Jose
