A unique performer is on his way to Saratoga. Grammy-nominated classical guitarist Paul Galbraith is performing at Villa Montalvo's Carriage House on March 14.
Galbraith isn't special because he plays classical pieces on a guitar, but because he plays an eight-string guitar, upright, similar to the way a cellist plays.
Galbraith performs sitting over a resonance box that amplifies his sound, along with the help of a metal endpin--like a cello's--connected to the bottom of the guitar leading to the box. The sound travels from his guitar down the endpin and out of the box.
Galbraith has been hailed by music critics, and has sat in with some of the finest orchestras in the world. He debuted his fresh style in 1989 at the Edinburgh Festival. He is one of a few eight-string guitarists in the world, and was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1998 for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance.
