    Montalvo hosts orchard of artists


    Through March 21, the Gallery at Montalvo is filled with the collaborative efforts of a team of architects and artists whom Montalvo invited to design new facilities for its Artist Residency Program. The exhibit includes the main site model, individual models, layout boards, work samples and explanations of the project and its goals.

    The Gallery at Montalvo is at 15400 Montalvo Road, Saratoga. Hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, call 961-5813.

    Local author shares experiences in war

    Lyle McCarty, a Saratoga resident and author, will speak about his book and war experiences at the Saratoga Community Library, 13650 Saratoga Ave., on March 1 at 7:30 p.m. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Saratoga Libraries and is free.

    McCarty, a B-24 navigator during World War II who flew missions in Italy, wrote Coffee Tower as a compilation of diary entries, letters and other documents about the war and, in particular, the 459th Bomb Group in which he served. It has received a book award and several laudatory reviews. Proceeds from book sales benefit the 459th Bomb Group Association Scholarship Fund. For more information, call 867-5285.

    Rabbi speaks about afterlife

    Rabbi Daniel Syme speaks on "What Happens After I Die: Jewish Views of the Afterlife" on March 11 as the conclusion of the Distinguished Lecture Series, sponsored by the South Bay Institute for Jewish Living and Learning.

    The program begins at 7:30 p.m. at Congregation Beth David, 19700 Prospect Road in Saratoga. Syme, who is the author or co-author of 26 books on Jewish living, has been voted by Lifestyles Magazine as one of the 18 North American Jews who will be "most influential in shaping the future of the Jewish community."

    Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and $5 for those age 30 or younger. Babysitting is available with advance reservation. Tickets are available by calling 793-5190. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
