Saratoga NewsSports BriefsSoccer Playoffs The teams were ready to play, but Mother Nature wasn't cooperating last weekend. She let her "El Niño" out to play on Saturday, so the girls' and boys' soccer teams that had qualified for the Central Coast Section playoffs couldn't! The Prospect girls' and boys' soccer teams were each scheduled to take part in CCS play on Saturday, but both games were washed away by the heavy El Niño storm. The games will be rescheduled for this week, but not before Tuesday, according to the CCS. For information on the CCS playoffs, contact the CCS web site. The Panthers, 15-2-4 for the year, are slated to face Los Gatos, 15-2-2, in the girls' CCS Division II quarter-finals, and the Prospect boys, 10-7-6, are set to meet Live Oak, 13-2-3, in the CCS Division I quarters. The Prospect boys earned their CCS berth by finishing third in the tough Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League, and they opened the play-offs with a convincing 4-0 win over Woodside last week before the rains hit. Josh Anderson and Tony Royval each had a goal and an assist and Tony Chang gave out two assists to lead the Panthers to the impressive victory. Derek Avery and Josh Denney also scored goals in the win and Francisco Martinez had an assist. Goalkeepers Brandon Delgado and Frank Marotti Jr. teamed up to blank the Woodside offense. Dinh 4th at CCS Phat Dinh of Westmont earned a spot in the state wrestling tournament March 6-7 at the University of the Pacific in Stockton by placing fourth at the Central Coast Section finals last Saturday night at Santa Clara High School. Dinh dropped a close 6-4 decision to Dung Le of Silver Creek in the battle for third place at 121 pounds. Dinh's effort helped the Warriors into the top 20 in the team standings. Westmont finished 17th overall with 58.5 points. Baseball Clinic The Saratoga Little League will host the Doyle Baseball Clinic for players ages 6 and older on Feb. 28-March 1 at its home at Congress Springs Field. The clinic will run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday and noon-5 p.m. on Sunday. The fee is $80 per player. For information, call Bob Kong at 252-0445 or Doyle Baseball at 941/439-1000.
