Safe holding $13,500 taken from Blue Rock

By Mark Kregel

The Blue Rock Shoot coffee shop, at 14523 Big Basin Way, was broken into and robbed Feb. 10 for the second time in two months. At least $13,500 was stolen from the cafe when the safe, holding money from both La Fondue restaurant and the cafe, was stolen, according to a sheriff's report.

"It's a little scary," Blue Rock manager Josh White said. "At least it didn't happen when any workers were here."

White said the method of the break-in was similar to the one reported on Dec. 26. The office window was broken in the same way, although the burglar came through the back door this time instead of the front.

"I think it was the same person," White said, "and he had an accomplice. The safe was pretty heavy."

The shop replaced the glass office door with one made of wood and installed an alarm system. The store will no longer keep cash on site, and instead will deposit it in a bank.

"When you think of Saratoga, you don't think of break-ins," White said. "When you don't think of danger, you don't prepare for it."

Other than the glass door, there were no other damages to property.

"It was strictly a cash thing," White said.

Only $300 was taken in the December burglary. The store was locked on Dec. 24 and was found to have been broken into on the morning of Dec. 26.
