Split for Vikings

Scott Reeves poured in 21 points and James Holmes tossed in 19 to lead the West Valley Community College men's basketball team to an 80-59 win over De Anza last week.

But the win left the Vikings with just a split for the week. West Valley had opened the week by dropping a tough 58-57 nod to rival San Jose City College.

The split leaves the Vikes 6-4 in Coast Conference play and 21-8 for the year as the regular season comes to an end.

Reeves helped West Valley close out the regular season with a victory by burying three three-pointers on his way to a game high 21 points.

Taplar Mvogo tossed in 17 points for the winners, and Toby Vares added 14 points, including three three-pointers. Keith Lakstigala had three points, Darrell Teat and Bill Lapcevic two apiece and Derek Mickle and Chris Ott one each.

Holmes and Mvogo poured in 18 points apiece, but Reeves could manage just two free throws in West Valley's 58-57 loss to San Jose City.

Vares finished in double digits with 10 points. Teat added four points, Mickle three and Robert Taylor two.
