Oars in the Water
The members of the Los Gatos Rowing Club have dipped their oars into the water as they prepare to open the 2002 season.
The club, 115 rowers strong, will open the season with a regatta for first-year novice competitors on March 2 at Lake Merced in San Francisco. The varsity will be in the water on March 3 for the Serra Invitational.
Los Gatos will host home regattas on March 9 and 17 at Lexington Reservoir.

The registration fee of $65 per player includes a uniform, photo package and end-of-the-season award. Family discounts are available. After Feb. 28, there will be a $10 late registration fee charged and the family discount will not be offered.

Homes Needed
The San Jose Giants, a Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, is looking for local families to take in their players this season.
The search is currently on for host families for the 2002 season, which runs April through August. Linda Pereira of the Giants needs to find enough families for the players by early March.
Host families provide a player with a room, and the Giants provide season tickets and parking passes for all of the club's games at San Jose Municipal Stadium. The team also hosts picnics for the families and sponsors an annual trip to a San Francisco Giants game at Pac Bell Park.
For more information on the host family program, call Pereira at 408.297.1435, ext. 19.
Pop Warner
The Los Gatos Pop Warner football organization is currently holding online registration for players and cheerleaders. Last year teams filled up quickly, so interested boys and girls ages 7-15 are encouraged to register early.
The season begins in August of 2002. Sign-up information is available at www.lgpw.com or by calling the organization's hotline at 408.920.2204.
