    Commission holds free conference

The Saratoga Youth Commission will host a free youth conference on March 30, that representatives of Lynbrook, Monta Vista, Saratoga, Prospect and Westmont high schools are invited to attend. The commission hopes that the conference will increase communication and cooperation between the schools serving the Saratoga community.

The conference will feature guest speakers, including local politicians, community leaders and motivational speakers, with break-out sessions on topics such as teen-sheriff relations, teen stress, and creating communitywide teen activities. A catered lunch is included. The entire conference is being planned and implemented by students with limited assistance by city staff, according to commission Chairman James Atkin.

Co-sponsored by the commission and the city council, the conference will be held at city hall from 8:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Contact Atkin at 408.872.1012.

    Bone density test at Longs

The nonprofit Foundation for Osteoporosis Research and Education will conduct bone density testing at Longs Drugs store at 12940 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road in Saratoga on March 9, from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

The test is a safe, painless, noninvasive scan of the forearm, according to FORE. It takes seven minutes, costs $30 and all proceeds go to support the bone density testing program.

No appointment is necessary, but technicians do the testing on a first-come-first-serve basis. Call FORE at 510.832.2663.

    Public input on council item

The Saratoga City Council invites the public to comment on a previously discussed meeting item, regarding nuisance abatement. The comments will be welcomed on March 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the city council chambers. Participants will address a proposed ordinance amending and updating portions of the Saratoga Municipal Code governing code enforcement. Amendments have been made in the code, providing for an independent hearing officer.

For more information, contact the city clerk at 408.868.1269.
