Watershed Festival benefactors sought

The Coyote Creek Riparian Station is searching for sponsors for its Watershed Festival, scheduled for May 19 at Wildwood Park.

Barbara Dutra, a volunteer for the event, said festival organizers are wanted to create an educational forum. The festival will include a presentation from guest speaker Dr. Bernie Goldner, a creek biologist. In addition, the feastival may include a student display of science projects associated with the creek.

Dave Johnston, research director of the riparian station, said that about $8,700 in sponsorship is needed to hold the festival.

He said local businesses and organizations are being approached for sponsorships.

Hakone presents bamboo lecture

The Japan Society of Northern California and the Hakone Foundation will present an afternoon lecture and demonstration at Hakone Gardens with Japanese bamboo craftsman Hafu Matsumoto March 24 from 2 to 5 p.m. Matsumoto will demonstrate contemporary applications of traditional bamboo weaving techniques. The presentation will be accompanied by a bamboo flute performance by Gun Morita.

Ægis Gallery shows Epstein watercolors

'Trees and Flowers--Her Companions" is the title of the current show at the Ægis Gallery of Fine Art in Saratoga Village. Featured artist Bonnie Epstein is showing her watercolors at the gallery through March 24. The works offer closeup views of plants and other natural forms. A reception for the artist will be held March 17 from 5 to 9 p.m.

The Ægis Gallery, located at 14531 Big Basin Way, No. 2, is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Fairs to feature summer activities

Student Camp and Trip Advisors of San Carlos is providing two Summer Opportunities Fairs for Teens free to the public March 2 at Menlo School and March 3 at Marin Academy. Both fairs will be open from 1 to 4 p.m.

More than 50 summer camp, summer school and travel programs will have representatives at these two fairs for teenagers and their families to talk with and explore options. Programs represented will range from local area day camps to exotic travel options worldwide.
