COMPANIONS HOST JAZZ, JAVA AND JUST DESSERTS

The fundraising committee of Community Companions will recognize its sponsor-level donors on March 3 with a concert and reception in their honor.

Sponsors, those who have given $100 or more to the George McCarthy Honorary Fund, will receive tickets to the matinee performance of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band at Flint Center in Cupertino. Following the concert, they may attend a private reception hosted by Randy and Karen Baker at their Saratoga home.

Starbucks of Cupertino is donating exotic coffees for the reception, and Johnny Cerrito and Steve Zanardi, owners of Johnny Z's restaurant in Cupertino, are serving some of their patrons' favorite desserts, including tiramisu, vanilla bean gelato, cheesecake and a blood-orange mimosa sorbetto.

Door prize drawings will be held for dinners, flowers, jewelry, and body lotions and scents from local merchants.

Community Companions is a private nonprofit agency that provides mental-health treatment and supportive care and services for persons with emotional and mental disabilities.

Last year, the fundraising committee set $100,000 as its goal. As of last week, they had received $95,595.
