Students plan to 'Jump for Heart'
More than 650 students from Argo-naut and Marshall Lane elementary schools will participate in the American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart program, designed to teach children that exercise is a necessary part of a healthy lifestyle.
"Jump Rope for Heart is a terrific event for our schools," said Sandy Hull, school nurse and American Heart Association school site committee member. "It gives schools the opportunity to bring their entire school community together--students, parents and faculty--to raise money for the AHA, learn to keep fit and, most importantly, have a great time!"
Marshall Lane will conduct its event on April 4, and Argonaut will hold its jumpathon on March 27. Money raised will help fight the primary cause of death in America, cardiovascular disease, by supporting cardiovascular research and community service and educational programs of the American Heart Association.

Monta Vista teacher receives Mudd award
April Scott, a mathematics teacher at Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, was honored by Harvey Mudd College for her work with high school students during the college's fourth annual Teacher Recognition Program, Feb. 3-5. Scott was named by Nathaniel Brown, a Harvey Mudd sophomore and Cupertino resident, as the instructor who most inspired and encouraged him to choose a college major in science and technology.
"At a time when our nation's high schools face so many challenges, I think it's appropriate to give special recognition to teachers," said Patricia Coleman, the college's dean of admissions. "And it is an honor to recognize these special teachers who really make a difference for their students.
"Mrs. Scott has a magical and compelling talent to make simple numbers and figures leap out of the chalk dust," Brown said. "She dares students to attack problems, explore mysteries, and push their minds to the limit."
Scott was one of 18 honorees from around the United States.
