The Saratoga Sister City Association will explore the possibility of establishing another sister city connection, this time with Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Saratoga already has one sister city program with Muko-Shi, Japan.
City Councilmember Don Wolfe, who visited Stratford while on vacation in September and made a presentation to the Saratoga Sister City Association, commented on why Saratoga should be associated with the city. "Both cities are established as places of art, culture and theater," he said. Stratford is the birthplace of Shakespeare. He called the addition of Stratford as a sister city "a real possibility."
Marty Clevenger, president of the association, is drafting an exploratory letter to the English city to begin a discussion. She stressed that the idea of having Stratford as a sister city is in the preliminary stage, with plans for specific activities between the two cities. The program with Japan includes a student exchange.
"We've talked about other sister cities before, and it hasn't flown," she said.
