Endorsement
Rebecca Cohn for Assembly
It's always tempting to vote for the hometown candidate, regardless of his or her qualifications. On March 7, Saratogans should have no qualms about casting their vote for Saratogan Rebecca Cohn for the 24th Assembly District.
Although crossover votes will not count toward delegates in the presidential race in California, Republicans and Democrats alike can cast a vote for Democrat Cohn, who has distinguished herself in a field of six contenders for the seat being vacated by Jim Cunneen.
Cohn supports SCA3, the proposed amendment to the state constitution which would allow more sales-tax revenue to fund transportation if a simple majority of voters want it. Although opposed by Gov. Gray Davis, the amendment has wide support among Silicon Valley executives.
Cohn says her highest priority will be education. She told the Saratoga News, "Until we begin paying teachers like the professionals they are, we're going to lose them."
She's also a strong proponent of a state patients' bill of rights. She says she is particularly eager to improve health care for the elderly.
When she came to Santa Clara County 15 years ago, she was a single parent and could not afford to buy a home. Today, she says, all communities need to share in providing state-mandated affordable housing.
Although she has not held elected office, she has worked extensively with the Legislature. She says she's ready to hit the ground running.
We believe Cohn is the best candidate--for Republicans and Democrats alike. We urge Saratogans to vote for hometown candidate Rebecca Cohn for the 24th Assembly District March 7.
