    Water the topic at LWV forum

    Anyone interested in taking baths in the future is invited to attend a March 14 lecture entitled "Water: Legislation, Trends and Resources," part of the League of Woman Voters' series of sustainability forums.

    The featured speaker is Chris Elias, environmental director for the Silicon Valley Manufacturers Group. He will speak on water policy and management from both public and private perspectives, followed by a question and answer period.

    The forum will be held at the Saratoga Senior Center at 7:30 p.m. Call 408.867.9571.

    City Council seeks to fill vacancies

    The City Council is looking for four interested citizens to be part of the Public Safety Commission and three to join the Heritage Preservation Commission, for terms that would expire in April 2004. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m., March 24, and interviews will be scheduled April 5 and/or April 19. Applicants must be 18 years old or over.

    The City Council is also seeking to fill four upcoming vacancies on the Youth Commission, for terms that would expire in July 2001. The application deadline is 5 p.m., May 5, and interviews will be scheduled for May 17. Applicants must be entering grades 7-12 in the fall of 2000.

    Council hires an interim manager

    On Feb. 25, the city hired William C. Norton as the interim city manager. He begins Mar. 1, and is expected to remain in the position for three to six months, at which time the city will hire a permanent city manager.

    Former city manager Larry Perlin was asked to resign by the City Council Feb. 8. His last day was Feb. 29.

    A resident of Alameda, Norton was the city manager for Alameda for eight years, before retiring in 1996. Since then he has served as interim city manager for Calistoga from February to July 1998 and also for Los Altos Hills from June to September 1999.

    Norton has an MBA in management from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, and BA in economics and business administration from Knox College, Galesburg, Ill.
