Four past artist residents exhibit at Montalvo Gallery

The Gallery at Montalvo's new exhibit, Four Montalvo Artists Reflect on Organic Forms, features mixed media by former Montalvo artists-in-residence Claire Beaulieu of Canada, Nicole Lenzi of Baltimore, Glen Rogers of Oakland and Kerry Vander Meer of Oakland. The exhibit runs March 5 through April 2.

Beaulieu has devised a symbolic visual language involving leaves, embryos and other references to gestation and fertility. Lenzi explores the rose, a longtime symbol of love, in large charcoal and pastel drawings. Rogers, while staying at Montalvo, collected a variety of leaves and seed pods that now show up in canvases that delve into topics of nature, spirit and the interconnectedness of things. Vander Meer's emphasis is on the beauty and ecological fragility of frogs.

The public is invited to an artists' reception on March 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. The Gallery at Montalvo is at 15400 Montalvo Road in Saratoga. For information, call 408.961.5813 or visit www.villamontalvo.org.
