Obituary Ernest Scharpf
Former Saratogan Ernest J. "Ernie" Scharpf Jr. died of a heart attack Feb. 6 in Las Vegas, Nev., where he had been residing. He was 57.
Scharpf was born Feb. 14, 1942, in Brooklyn, N.Y. During the Vietnam War, he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U. S. Army Signal Corps. His other assignments included Fort Monmouth, N.J., Fort Hood, Texas and Fort Gordon, Ga.
He held a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame, a master's degree in taxation from Golden Gate University and a law degree from Peninsula University. He was a member of the California Bar. Over the years, he worked for National Semiconductor, Intersil Corporation and Wiltron.
Among his hobbies was following Notre Dame football games, attending son Jason's soccer games, going with daughter Maria to home improvement shows, tending his rose bushes and attending the Renaissance Pleasure Faire.
Survivors include son E. Jason Scharpf of San Jose; daughter Maria R. Scharpf of San Jose; sister Marguerite DiSepio of Jamesburg, N.J. and brother George E. Scharpf of Colts Neck, N.J.
Memorial services have been held. Donations may be made to the Lions Club or the Knights of Columbus.
