SCVTA has openings on local commissions

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority has a number of vacancies on a variety of commissions, including four vacancies on the citizens advisory committee, one vacancy on the countywide bicycle advisory committee and one vacancy on the committee for transit accessibility.

For the citizens advisory committee, the Transportation Authority needs a resident representative from San Jose, one from the South County, a business and labor representative and a representative for specified community interests; the bicycle advisory committee needs an applicant who lives or works in Santa Clara County; and the committee for transit accessibility would like an applicant with a disability who is familiar with public transit.

For an application or more information on the requirements, responsibilities and appointment process for applicants, call the office of the board secretary at 321-5680.

Council recognizes agency's milestone

The Saratoga City Council passed a resolution Feb. 18 congratulating the Santa Clara County Water District on 30 years of overseeing the operation of 10 drinking water reservoirs, 20 groundwater recharge ponds, three drinking water treatment plants and flood protection in Silicon Valley.

The district was formed in 1968 as a result of the combination of the Santa Clara Valley Water Conservation District--founded in 1929 and responsible for the construction of eight reservoirs and and a drinking water treatment plant--and the Santa Clara County Flood Control and Water Conservation District--founded in 1955 and responsible for initiating planning efforts for flood protection projects.

Council's retreat plans take form

Plans are in motion for the Saratoga City Council retreat March 14, tentatively planned to take place at the Savannah Chanel Vineyards just outside the city limits.

Judi Sweet, who has a background in human relations and organizational management, will facilitate the entire retreat.

The retreat agenda will include such issues as improving staff-council and council-commission relations.
