Saratoga NewsObituariesEdwin Kennedy Longtime Saratoga resident Edwin A. Kennedy died Dec. 7 at the age of 82. He was born June 24, 1915, in Livermore, the descendant of California pioneer families. During World War II, Kennedy served with the U.S. Army Medics in the South Pacific. After his service, he joined the Santa Clara V.F.W. Post 3982 and was a past commander of the Valley West V.F.W. Kennedy was employed by the San Jose Fire Department, where he worked for 25 years and achieved the rank of fire captain. He also belonged to the Saratoga Volunteer Fire Fighters. He was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Services, a volunteer driver for the physically challenged, a docent at Saratoga and San Jose museums and a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Sacred Heart Men's Club. He was also a member of the San Jose Retired Police Officers and Firefighters Association and the San Jose Widows and Orphans. "Ed was a friend to everyone, and he never met anyone he didn't like. He was very sensitive to people's needs and emotions," remembers wife Dawn. In his spare time, Dawn says, her husband enjoyed carpentry and working with his hands in general. He also enjoyed collecting cowboy hats and old cars. For his 80th birthday, Kennedy received a big surprise party at the Saratoga Safeway store, coordinated by longtime employee Gary Hagen. At the party, then-Mayor Ann Marie Burger presented Kennedy with a birthday proclamation from the city. Kennedy was preceded in death by daughters Irene Hall and Kathleen Kennedy, twin brother George Kennedy and sister Henrietta Teeter. Survivors include wife Dawn Kennedy of Saratoga; grandchildren Garth and Lance Folley; great-granddaughter Tamara Folley; sister Fern Corder and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services have been held, with interment at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery. Donations may be made to a charity of choice. Kay Brostrom Kay C. Brostrom died of cancer Jan. 13 at her Saratoga residence. She was 56. Born Aug. 12, 1941, in Kansas, she was a graduate of Oregon State University and a member of its alumni association. She worked as an administrative assistant to a Palo Alto school district superintendent. Survivors include her husband, Edward H. Brostrom of Saratoga; stepson Edward H. Brostrom Jr. of Austin, Texas; stepdaughters Alisa Janine Tassano of San Francisco and Erica L. Morgon of Albany, Ore.; five grandchildren; and brother Douglas Vincent Christensen of Sandy, Utah. Memorial services have been held. Donations may be made to Midpeninsula HomeCare & Hospice, 201 San Antonio Circle, Suite 135, Mountain View, 94040. George Liddell Saratogan George Liddell died Jan. 16 at Our Lady of Fatima Villa, where he had been residing. He was 89. He was born Dec. 30, 1908, in Detroit, Mich., and was a salesman in wholesale and manufacturing. He was a member of the Saratoga Presbyterian Church for nearly 30 years. Survivors include wife of 71 years Vivian Liddell of Saratoga; daughters Shirley Bunton of Harrison, Idaho and Georgeanne Boerger of San Francisco; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services have been held, with inurnment at Madronia Cemetery, Saratoga.
