Falcons outstanding

The Saratoga girls' basketball team had an outstanding 1997-98 season--both on the court and in the classroom.

The Falcons won the championship in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League, and they also starred in the classroom by finishing second in the Central Coast Section in the 1998 Winter Season Scholastic Championship Competition.

Pinewood finished first among girls' basketball teams in the scholastic competition with a 3.8150 cumulative grade point average, but Saratoga was a close second with a 3.5454 GPA.

Special Olympics

Track and field practice begins for the Special Olympics Santa Clara County program, and the organization is looking for volunteers for the spring program. A volunteer orientation session will be held on March 10, 7 p.m., at the Special Olympics office. For information, call 267-2734.

RT Spring League

The annual RT Spring League basketball program, that features games, clinics, contests and tournament, will hold signups and mandatory orientation sessions every Sunday, 3 p.m. or 5 p.m., through March 13 at Del Mar.

The league is open to players in grades 3-12. For more information, call Raymond Townsend at 879-0272 or Steve Wolford at 275-1750.

Roller Hockey

Spring roller hockey leagues will begin in March for youngsters through high school age, hosted by the city of San Jose.

Youth league play begins March 14. The cost per player is $40 for the six-game season, and lessons are also available.

High school roller hockey competition will begin on March 24.

Nothing But Net

Bud Ogden's Nothing But Net instructional basketball league spring season begins March 21 at West Valley Community College in Saratoga.

The league is open to boys and girls in grades 3-11, and games are played on Saturdays and Sundays at West Valley.
