Saratoga NewsVillage BriefsFormer artist resident exhibits at Montalvo Daniel Raffin, an artist-in-residence at Villa Montalvo in 1997, exhibits "the tabular ear" March 8 through April 5 at the Gallery at Montalvo. In describing his exhibit, which includes assemblages and drawings, Raffin explains that "the tabular ear attempts to hint at the experience or feeling that speech can be a kind of writing, that the spoken inscribes itself upon the listener as writing inscribes itself upon a tablet." A reception for Raffin takes place March 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. An open studios event, which includes performances and readings, takes places the same day from 1 to 5 p.m. Current resident artists are sculptor/painter Elizabeth Ingraham, painter Michael Gallagher, composer Joelle Wallach, writer Richard Grayson and playwright Paige Evans. Artist's 'Hidden Dimensions' revealed at Aegis Saratoga artist Judith Marshall is exhibiting a decade's worth of paintings at Aegis Gallery through March 30. She developed her current series from impressions, photographs and drawings done while traveling abroad. Spanning from 1987 to 1997, these images were the basis for her Hidden Dimensions collection of mixed media on paper, canvas and monotypes. An artist's reception takes place March 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. Aegis Gallery is located at 14531 Big Basin Way, Unit 2. Glen Rose presents Gershwin tribute Singer and pianist Glen Rose presents The Gershwin Brothers: The Story of George and Ira Gershwin on March 20 at 8 p.m. at Villa Montalvo, located at 15400 Montalvo Road, Saratoga. Rose's entertainment background includes the Hollywood movie music scene in the 1970s and European cabaret shows throughout the 1980s.
