Holmes the mvp

All-conference players James Holmes and Scott Reeves sparked the West Valley Community College men's basketball team to a 91-63 win over West Hills in the first round of the community college state playoffs.

Reeves led the Vikings with 30 points, including six three-pointers, and Holmes poured in 27 points, including a perfect 9-for-9 effort at the free-throw line.

Toby Vares tossed in three threes and was six for six at the stripe on his way to a 21-point night for the Vikes, who improved to 22-8 for the year with the win.

Keith Lakstigala popped five points, Robert Taylor hit four, and Derek Mickle and Taplar Mvogo added two apiece.

Holmes entered the game just days after being named the most valuable player in the Coast Conference. Reeves was picked to the all-conference first team, and Mvogo won a spot on the second team.
