OBITUARIES

Inez Mae Kensit

Inez Mae Kensit, 78, died Feb. 9 in Saratoga.

A graduate of Baker University, Kan., and Long Beach State University, she taught home economics and physical education at Redondo High School. She retired in 1980.

She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Saratoga Presbyterian Church and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Redondo Beach. An avid family historian, she published a Staatz family history called Lest We Forget in 1981.

She is survived by two sons, John C. Kensit of San Jose and Timothy Kensit of Davenport; a daughter, Susanne Salfen of Los Gatos; her brother, Jack Staatz of Lyona, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Feb. 12 at Saratoga Presbyterian Church.

Mary Ellen Givens Slane

Mary Ellen Givens Slane, 32, died Feb. 17 in a balcony collapse in San Francisco.

Born in Evanston, Ill., she graduated from Saratoga High School in 1982. She then attended UCLA, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She graduated from the university in 1986 with a degree in history.

She was assistant vice president of global marketing for Marsh & McLennan Inc.

Her main outside interest involved history. "She was a student of Russian history," said her father, James Givens. "She had a substantial collection of Russian history books." She was also a former member of the Junior League of San Francisco.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Slane of San Rafael; her parents, Mary and James Givens of Los Gatos; her sister Jane Givens Davis of Redlands; her brother-in-law; and three nephews.

Memorial services were held Feb. 22 at San Gabriel's Church in San Francisco. Contributions can be made to the Lincoln Memorial Watchorn Association, 125 W. Vine St., Redlands, 92373.

M. Leonard Mitchell

M. Leonard Mitchell, 80, died Feb. 26 in San Jose.

A Saratoga resident, he worked as a self-employed electrical contractor. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mitchell of Saratoga; his brother, Cleo Carney of Greeley, Colo.; two children, Judith Mitchell Marshall and Mark Mitchell; and four grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Feb. 29 at the Saratoga Presbyterian Church. Contributions can be made to the building fund of the Saratoga Presbyterian Church, 20455 Herriman Ave., Saratoga.
