Bud Ogden League

The Bud Ogden Instructional Basketball League is currently holding signups for boys and girls in grades 3-12 interested in playing spring basketball from March 16-May 26.

Games will be played Saturdays and Sundays at West Valley Community College in Saratoga.

Ogden, a former All-American from Santa Clara University who went on to play professionally for the Philadelphia 76ers, is the league coordinator.

Vikes still rolling

Five players scored in double digits in back-to-back games to lead the West Valley Community College men's basketball team to the Northern California Community College basketball championship.

The Vikings whipped Monterey Peninsula College 94-70 in the semifinals, then crushed Sierra College 92-76 in the title game.

West Valley will now be in the fight for the state championship. The Vikings will compete in the state tourney March 7-9 at the San Jose State University Events Center.

Bennett Davison jammed 37 points and Jacobi Thompson and Jamaal Sanford pitched in 34 points apiece in the last two games to lead the Vikes to the title.

Davison led the Vikings with 23 points in the easy win over Sierra in the NorCal finals. Andy Newman bombed 18 points in the victory and Thompson and Sanford had 14 apiece.

Bob Ladine drained four three-pointers to finish with 12 points for West Valley. Taplar Mvogo hit five points, Derek Mickle four and Toby Vares two.

A game earlier, Thompson and Sanford had 20 points each to lead all West Valley scorers in the semifinal win over Monterey. Davison supported with 14 points and Ladine and Newman added 13 apiece. Thompson, Ladine and Newman each drilled three three-pointers.

Saratoga Pony-Colt

The Saratoga Pony-Colt Baseball League will hold signups for the 1996 season on March 9, 9 a.m.-noon, at Congress Springs Park. Pony tryouts will also be held from 1-4 p.m. on March 9. For more information, call 867-3619.
