    Council awards three contracts

The Saratoga City Council has awarded three contracts for various city projects.

The council authorized hiring Mundie & Associates of San Francisco, for an amount not to exceed $25,000, for environmental consulting services for the Saratoga Community Library renovation and expansion project. The council also approved contracting with Republic Electric for traffic signal maintenance on a monthly basis for $975 per month. Finally, the city awarded Harris & Associates a consultant contract for a citywide pavement condition update for $30,740. The council awarded all contracts on Feb. 21.

    Persia Stories At Library

Stories from Persia will be featured on March 13, during the 7:30 p.m. storytime in the community room of the Saratoga Community Library on Saratoga Avenue, in preparation for the coming Persian New Year. Families with elementary school-age children are especially invited, but all ages are welcome. For more information, call 408.867.6126.

    Commission OK's fence for school

St. Andrew's School will have a brand new fence, since the Saratoga Planning Commission approved a variance for the school on Feb. 28.

According to the city's zoning ordinance, a fence on the site could not be over 3 feet in height unless the commission grants a variance to the rule for certain reasons, including safety. St. Andrew's fence will be 6 feet tall.

It will be a welded steel fence treated with black polyester coating, and it would replace an existing 4-foot-high, chain-link fence on the school site. The reason for the new fence, according to St. Andrew's rector, is to keep the students safe inside the playground .
