The award-winning California Youth Symphony, conducted by Maestro Leo Eylar, is tuning its instruments in preparation for two upcoming concerts: March 11, at 2:30 p.m. at Flint Center in Cupertino, and March 18, at 2:30 p.m. at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center.
The program includes Romanian Rhapsody by Enesco, Violin Concerto No. 1 by Bruch and Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov. The Bruch selection is highlighted by a violin solo by 18-year-old Lana Lee, one of two recent winners of the CYS's Young Artist Competition. She is currently studying violin performance at the Juilliard School of Music in New York.
Among the CYS's 100 preteen and teenage musicians hailing from throughout the Bay Area are many Saratogans. Back row, from left: Jonathan Chou, Annie Weidert, Joseph Kim and Jeffrey Shiozaki.
