    Los Gatos artist invites community to eclectic reception

    AnneMarie Arnold of Los Gatos exhibits a variety of her original paintings and art prints for a one-day show on March 11 at Steinberg Photography Gallery, 14572 Big Basin Way in Saratoga. A book illustrator and designer with more than 70 books to her credit, Arnold will also be signing her millennium posters and offering samples of her chocolate hazelnut cake, which won the grand prize in a New Orleans baking competition. The South Bay-based Celtic music trio Dobhran provides entertainment. The reception runs from 6 to 9 p.m. For more information, call the gallery at 408.867.3077.

    Saratoga Sister City scholarships are now available

    The Saratoga Sister City Scholarship Committee is accepting applications for the Gomersall Cultural Scholarship, which is available to anyone interested in studying aspects of Japanese and American culture. The scholarship, whose goal is to further harmony between the United States and Japan, is presented in memory of Ed Gomersall, former president of the Saratoga Sister City Committee.

    Applications are available at local schools, or by calling Reiko Iwanaga at 408.867.4525. The deadline to apply is March 15.

    Aegis Gallery and Gallery Saratoga plan March shows

    Saratogan Judith Marshall is this month's featured artist at Aegis Gallery. Her exhibition, Face Off, consists of mixed-media works on canvas that incorporate representations of masks and facades. An artist's reception takes place March 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. Aegis Gallery is at 14531 Big Basin Way, Unit 2.

    Neighboring Gallery Saratoga's show for March is Katazome, a presentation of traditional Japanese dyeing techniques on silk and other textiles by artist Chie Kurahashi Goldsmith. Goldsmith, who has 30 years of artistic experience, uses natural dyes and pigments derived from plants and minerals. An artist's reception takes place March 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Gallery Saratoga is at 14531 Big Basin Way, Unit 3.
