Commission to consider plans for antennas

The Saratoga Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing on Wednesday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Civic Theater at 13777 Fruitvale Ave. on the subject of antennas. The commission will consider an application from Page Net for use-permit approval to mount two 14-foot antennas on an existing 40-foot tower at 12333 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. Equipment for the antennas would be located in an existing building at the base of the tower. The site is located within a commercial visitor zoning district.

Council recognizes two city residents

The Saratoga City Council recognized Saratogans Herb Richards and Marion Card at its meeting Wednesday, March 4.

Councilmembers offered congratulations to Richards for being named West Coast Independent Petroleum Man of the Century by the Petroleum Marketing Industry. A resident for more than 50 years, Richards founded Coast Oil Company, the first self-serve station in Northern California, in 1947.

Card, a resident for 50 years, has recently moved out of the area with her husband, Bud. The council wished them luck in their new home in Fairfield. Card has been active in the Saratoga Sister City and San Jose Sister Cities programs and the Hakone Foundation. Card also participated in the Hakone Gardens docent program.

Conservation Days come to Sanborn

Sanborn County Park offers various programs to individuals and groups during Forest Conservation Days.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 21 and 22, visitors can take guided walks through the redwoods, examine forest product exhibits, get free redwood seedlings and take rides on a turn-of-the-century steam donkey engine. There is also an access trail for the physically challenged.
