Leadership class available to youths

The Saratoga Recreation Department offers a leadership skills class for young people ages 10 to 16. Instructor Pat Scharpf covers communication, assertiveness, goal-setting and decision-making.

The class meets three consecutive Saturdays, beginning March 14, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Registration is $34 for residents; $41 for nonresidents. There is also a $22 materials fee. For information, call 868-1248 or 868-1249.

Speaker talks on kids in the system

The March meeting of the Los Gatos-Saratoga branch of the American Association of University Women is scheduled for Thursday, March 12, at Manhattans Restaurant, located at 12378 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road.

Penny Blake, a juvenile-dependency team leader in the Santa Clara County district attorney's office, will speak on "Children and the Justice System."

The event begins at 6 p.m. with social hour. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. and costs $25. For information, call 867-6237.

St. Patrick's Day dinner benefits senior center

The community is invited to a traditional St. Patrick's Day dinner, including corned beef and cabbage and Irish entertainment, on March 17 at 6 p.m. at the Saratoga Senior Center, located at 19655 Allendale Ave. in Saratoga.

The dinner is sponsored by the DeAnza Kiwanis Club. Cost is $10 per person, and all proceeds benefit the Senior Center. For reservations, call 868-1257.

Improving Your Memory Skills

The Saratoga Area Senior Coordinating Council, together with Secure Horizons, offers a free workshop on March 19 for senior citizens interested in memory enhancement.

Pat Helin, an instructor at San Jose State University and other academic institutions, shares age-specific information, resources, memory-building techniques and practical applications. The workshop runs from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Saratoga Senior Center. Participants are welcome to bring a bag lunch; coffee will be served. Preregistration is required.
